Are You An Odd One In?

All of us, living in this colossal world have something unique to each one of us. None of us are same even though we share some similarities with some people over certain things. It’s not that we can be entirely different from others.

When we are in a group, in a public place or when somebody possesses an extraordinary talent, people tend to look at them in an odd way. Some may appreciate us, some may feel jealous about us. They will definitely think of us like a unique or different creature.

When we wear multiple colors on our nails, when we have a different hair color or when we dress in a way that is different than the normal trend that is set up, we are looked at differently. It also happens when you are an introvert or extrovert. When you are really quiet and live in your personal space you are termed dumb. When you are very intelligent, they call you a nerd. When you have something out of the box that others don’t have, you are obviously odd. When your brain works like that of Einstein’s grandson’s or when you are far too good at sports, you are odd. When you are a genius at mathematics, you’re odd.

In the present world, social media is almost everywhere and it is intertwined in our day to day life. It has set up a standard of living for people. The term cringe has been so popularised that even the normal things you do and say are called cringe.

I am a Nephophile (a person who loves clouds). Every single time when I am going out, I take at least a minute to marvel at the sky and clouds. It’s kind of refreshing and lovely. My friend used to ask me what do you find so beautiful in it? You keep staring at it? I tried to explain about it to her, but she never really understood how it felt for me. I do have a different taste than others and that makes me odd.

When you are different, people throw tantrums at you, they wantedly pull you to fights. Many times, when you do or feel something so differently and deeply, when you feel strong emotions, people make fun of you. Especially, if you’re in your teens and twenties, people judge you. They pretty much make conclusions and a thesis based on you.

But trust me, being odd doesn’t make you weak. Just because people make fun of you, they make odd faces at you or they don’t include you with them doesn’t make you less. It’s because you have something that they don’t have and you stand out while others rush to stand in.

Often, our mentality is influenced by what we see in and around us. A lot of people advise us to merge and mix in the crowd. They tell us to move along with society. They don’t want us to stand against wrong things or get into fights and other sorts of problems just because we take an odd path that others are less likely to   take.

But that makes us the same as the rest, doesn’t it? Don’t ever be like that. The quality you own is what makes you a cut above the rest. Cherish it. Never change that for anyone. We won’t be having great people whom we look up to everyday if they would have chosen to be a sheep instead of becoming a wolf.

What makes you different than others is how you value yourself, your qualities, your traits and your character. Never change yourself just to fit in a massive crowd. It’s ok to be odd and it’s ok to stand out. Stand up for what you believe in! Never think twice for doing what you think is right even if it makes you odd. Don’t ever worry about being the 1 in 24168. (Little math doesn’t hurt and this is random hehe)

Let’s try to accept people the way they are, accept their differences and beautiful qualities. Cheers to all of us for being an odd one in!
