Extraction 2 Review: Chris Hemsworth had been missing from the scene for some time now. But he made a dashing comeback with Extraction 2. Chris Hemsworth reprises his role as Tyler Rake a mercenary-for-hire. After a rather shattering aftermath of the Bangladesh events, Tyler’s life hit a pause. But he was seeking purpose and purpose found him.
The movie was released on Netflix on June 16, 2023. Sam Hargrave wears the director’s hat once again in this Russo Brothers’ production. Golshifteh Farahani reprises her role as Nik and Adam Bessa comes back as Yaz and Idris Elba appear in a cameo.

Extraction 2 Summary
Extraction 2 takes place about nine months after the events in its 2020 prequel Extraction. Tyler’s recovery is touted as anything but a miracle. After the events in Bangladesh, Tyler, Nik, and Yaz had to go off-grid. Tyler is provided with apt medical care and transported to a lonesome shed in a snowed-in area.

While he is spending his time doing menial tasks and nursing his health, he is met with a mysterious man (played by Idris Elba) who offers him a job to extract a mafia leader’s family from prison. The family consists of his wife Ketavan (played by Tinatin Dalakishvili) and two kids – Sandro and Nina. They were brought into the prison as the said mafia leader is serving his sentence there.
Tyler finds a purpose for his time and takes up the offer, but it is not without risks. In an attempt that caused a full-scale prison riot and a direct conflict with a ruthless mafia gang, Tyler manages to bring the family and lead them to a safe space. He also crosses paths with his ex-wife Mia (played by Olga Kurylenko). As the two estranged partners meet once again, there is a lot of guilt absolution, and reconciliation between the two.
Unfortunately, Yaz loses his life in this battle. Sam has a close brush with death but manages to survive yet again. At the end of the movie, we see that he and Nik are in prison where Nik is on life support. But both of them are taken out of prison by the mysterious man and Tyler is asked to look forward to more jobs in the future.
Extraction 2 Review
Extraction 2 delivers its high-octane action promise after a stunning show we witnessed in its predecessor. The classic Sam Hargrave “one take” sequence was again seen in the movie. The action scenes did not seem like a mishmash despite the rapid and volatile nature of the events unfolding.
Despite being an action-heavy movie, this Sam Hargrave directorial manages to provide a seemingly palatable plot. We find Tyler’s character getting closure about his son’s loss after he meets his ex-wife. Yaz died in the skirmish but not before leading Tyler to a successful mission. It remains to be seen how Nik recovers from this skirmish. Perhaps one person getting fatally wounded and landing in a coma after every job might just become an Extraction movie tradition!

If the ending is anything to go by, a third movie in the Extraction series might just be a possibility! When Idris Elba’s character in the movie meets with Tyler in the end, he mentions he has a “gnarly boss”. This serves as a good hint for what we can expect in the next installment. With Yaz out of the picture and Nik on life support, Tyler needs a new team member to work with, and Idris Elba’s character and his boss might just be those! Is Extraction 2 a continuation?
Yes, it is. Chris Hemsworth returns as the same character again as the black ops mercenary Tyler Rake. So it is the sequel to the Netflix action movie, Extraction.
Will there be an Extraction 3?
It is possible. But, so far, we haven’t heard anything from Netflix yet. However, the director Sam Hargrave has revealed that ‘Extraction 3’ is already in the works. So, we can be somewhat sure that there will be Extraction 3.
