The start of the New Year has brought more interesting news all the way from China. As you can guess it from the heading, two chinese automobile giants Haima Automobile and Great Wall Motors confirms thier entry to india in 2020.
- FAW Haima Automobile Co., Ltd., trading as HAIMA
The name “Haima” is a contraction of “Hainan Mazda“
Haima is a Chinese automotive manufacturing company based in Haikou, Hainan and a subsidiary of FAW Group. It was founded in 1992 as a joint venture between the Hainan provincial government and Mazda to produce Mazda models for sale in China. In 2006, FAW acquired Mazda’s share of the venture, although many Haima models still incorporate Mazda technology.
As of 2012 Haima had an annual production capacity of approximately 400,000 vehicles. A total of 157,242 Haima passenger cars were sold in China in 2013, making it the 28th largest-selling car brand in the country in that year ( and the 12th largest-selling Chinese brand ).
What’s interesting is that Haima has teamed up with Bird Electric – a subsidiary of Bird Group – for its India operations. Bird Automotive is a dealer of BMW and Mini vehicles in India and is also a distributor of Segway personal transporters. Its association with the EV vertical of the Bird Group is a clear indication that the company is planning to showcase electrified vehicles at its Auto Expo 2020 public debut.
In China, Haima has already showcased a range of all-electric vehicles, including the Aishang 360 hatchback, E3 midsize sedan, E5 SUV and E7 MPV.
- Great Wall Motors trading as Haval, Wey, Ora and Great Wall Pickup
Great Wall Motors Owns Four brands. While Haval and Wey are SUV-centric brands, Ora is EV focused, and Great Wall Pickup, as the name suggests, is a brand that specialises in pick-up trucks.
Great Wall Motors is a Chinese automobile manufacturer headquartered in Baoding, Hebei, China. The company is named after the Great Wall of China and was formed in 1984. It was the first private Chinese auto manufacturer to become a Public Company by making it an public offering on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on 15 December 2003.
GWM have a plan to showcase some products from its successful Haval brand at the upcoming Auto Expo 2020 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, INDIA., which is just over a month away.
According to some sources over the internet, the main stage will have three of Haval’s successful SUVs – the H4 ( Rival for Hyundai Creta ), H6 and H9 and some couple of electric cars from the sister brands Ora and Wey.
GWM’s Indian Twitter page currently features the banner, which includes the Haval H9 and H2 facelift, and the Ora R1 electric car. This can also be a hint for GWM’s future plans in india.
