GMC ( General Motor Company ) is a division of the American Automobile Manufacturer GM or General Motors that primarily focuses on SUVs, trucks and military utility vehicles.
General Motors owns some more popular brands like Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, Opel, Cadillac and some significant stake in Baojun, jiefang, Vauxhall and Holden.
Interesting fact about General Motors
The Mighty Hummer is one of the popular models under GMC brand. They produced Hummer models from 1998 to 2009. Since fuel prices soared high and because of their poor mileage GM decided to halt production for Hummer, but retained ownership of the brand.
But last thursday, GM has confirmed that it will resurrect the Hummer name for a new line of Premium electric SUVs and pickup trucks. It will arrive under the brand name GMC. The New Hummer EV will come with 1,014hp and 15,592Nm of torque, and be capable of a 0-100kph time of 3sec. Also GMC’s tweet reveals that it will deliver both on-off road capable vehicles with zero emissions and zero limits.
GM will produce the new Hummer EV in Michigan, at its Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant. In order to produce EV trucks and SUVs Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant is being upgraded at a cost of $3 billion (approximately Rs 21,455 crores).
The project has been named as “Project O”. It is expected to be revealed on May 20, 2020. Also the new Hummer EV is likely to compete with the All-electric Rivian R1S SUV and Tesla Cybertruck.
It’s nearly a decade since Hummer brand has been inactive and now GM is making a strong comeback as an EV version. Personally, I would say GM is coming up with a great decision by bringing back the Hummer model which already has a good name in Automobile market. Making it an environmental friendly version, is just like cherry on the cake.
