Too Good To Go is one of the fastest-growing sustainable food app startups in terms of downloads in 2022. It lists claimed food bags saved, subscribing businesses, and users (155 million, 164,000, and 62 million as of August 2022, respectively).

The purpose – TOO GOOD TO GO

Too Good To Go’s mission is to reduce food waste. Its mobile application connects restaurants and stores that have unsold, surplus food, with customers who can buy whatever food the outlet considers surplus to requirements at a less cost.

The food on the app is one-third of its original cost. Each bag is listed at a reduced price. For example, $5 for $12 worth of food. The company believes in building a global movement in maximizing our impact and making significant progress in the fight against food waste and CO2 emissions.

The food sold through the app is even packaged in recyclable and environmentally friendly boxes. These guys aren’t just selling food at lower prices; they’re also working to ensure that everything wrong with the food industry is fixed in order to make the world a better place to live.

How TOO GOOD TO GO WORKS?

Customers can choose restaurants/stores that have surplus unsold food and order a magic bag at a lower price and collect it from the place at a scheduled collection window.

Businesses are often listed under categories like “Recommended for you,” “Pick up now,” “Pick up for lunch,” “Vegetarian surprise bags,” “Groceries,” “Baked goods,” and “Pick up for dinner,” but there’s also the option to see every registered business in your area. Find a meal or product that you like to order, pay for, and head to the restaurant/grocery/cafe at the scheduled pickup time to claim your food.

Too Good to Go Magic Bag

Restaurants on Too Good To Go serve food in “Magic Bags,” which means you won’t know what you’ll get until you pick it up. It could be anything on their menu, but you won’t be able to choose.

I’ve used the app multiple times, mostly with Starbucks, Greggs, and Cafe Nero and all these three are really good in terms of actions. For instance, on the Magic Bag, I received from Cafe Nero, I’ve got one almond croissant, one butter croissant, one pain-au-chocolat, three brownies, and a choco-chip cookie. In short, I’ve got £‎12 worth of items for just for £‎4. Nice bargain, innit?

Is TOO GOOD TO GO worth it?

The majority of businesses on the Too Good To Go app receive a rating of 5 stars from its users, and people can share what they love about their experience with specific vendors, like “friendly staff,” “great value,” “great amount of food,” and so on.

TOO GOOD TO GO – PROS AND CONS

TOO GOOD TO GO – PROS

Low prices

The cost is a significant incentive. Bags typically cost between £10 and £12, with prices ranging from £3.09 to £4.99. So the savings are massive, especially if you select your favourite brands, such as Starbucks or Yo Sushi! , you’ll get a considerable discount on places you’ll be visiting.

Variety of places to choose

If you live in a town or city, the selection of Too Good To Go-affiliated brands is excellent, including cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, and convenience stores.

Innovative Cooking

Having a mystery bag of goods influences you to come up with something unique. It can also encourage your family to try new things. You will never know what is inside the bag, hence every time you order a bag, your cooking becomes innovative.

TOO GOOD TO GO – CONS

No choices of selection

This is the most significant disadvantage for most people because the selection of items can be random, and if you don’t like any of them, you’ve wasted money rather than saved it. But when you look at this from a positive perspective, it is nothing as the objective is to avoid wastage. In that case, you can expect the ones you like!!

Not many Vegetarian or VEGAN options

If you are a vegetarian, heads up. There is a section with vegetarian options, but it does not have as much variety as the other sections. However, it depends on the neighbourhood you live in.

Lack of Dietary Requirements

You won’t get an option to choose items or bags based on your dietary requirements. Again, this is not something the company’s objective here, but an improvement on this would make this workflow even better.

How the firm makes money

This is a “win-win-win solution” for Too Good To Go, allowing businesses to make money from food that would otherwise be wasted while reaching new customers, and consumers to access food at affordable prices to reduce food waste, with all parties having a positive impact on the environment.
