What makes Rolls-Royce cars so Expensive?

What makes Rolls-Royce cars so Expensive? Established in 1904 by Charles Rolls and Henry Royce, Rolls-Royce is a car company that has not only survived a century but also maintained its identity as the most luxurious brand. But, ever wondered why is it so expensive? What makes it so special? Let’s find out.

What makes Rolls-Royce cars so Expensive?

Perfection

1. Color

The first thing we notice about a car is its colour. Although every car company has a wide range of colours, nothing beats the palette of 44,000 colours for exterior and interior by the Rolls-Royce. Every Rolls-Royce car’s colour is unique and completely customizable. By default, every car will have 7 layers of colour coatings. However, this may go up to 23 layers based on the customer’s desire.

Fun Fact 1: If the customer desires to get one of the previously used colours, permission from the previous customer who owns the colour is necessary. In other words, every car colour is like the customer’s signature.

Fun Fact 2: The coach stripes for every Rolls-Royce car is drawn by the same person, Mark Court since march 2002. The coach line is hand-drawn using only a squirrel hairbrush. Mark travels worldwide to redraw the coach line if needed.

2. Wheels and Grille

In order to reduce the tyre cavity noise and create a serene atmosphere inside the cabin, Rolls-Royce uses Contisilent tyres from Continental. Contisilent tyres can reduce the noise by 9 dB.

Fun Fact 3: As many of us know this already, the RR symbol in the wheel never spins; the wheel centres are self-righting.

Moving on, the Pantheon grille in front of every Rolls-Royce car is handmade. The design was inspired from the Pantheon Temple, Rome. To create an optical illusion, the grille has wider columns at the edges and thinner columns towards the middle. You will be surprised to notice that the grille design and perfection remain the same even after a century.

Craftsmanship

1. Starlight Headliner

Debuted in 2007, the starlight headliner makes every journey a magical experience. Every stellar scene is created by integrating optical fibres into the leather. Each constellation is unique and could take 9 to 17 hours for the craftsmen to craft this.

Fun Fact 4: If you are rich enough, you could get even the star map at the time of your birth to be crafted as the headliner.

2. Dashboard

As the name suggests, The Gallery is a meaningful expression of art, design and engineering excellence. An uninterrupted glass protects the artwork in the car. The Rolls-Royce has its own exclusive design team to convert the customer’s imagination into an artistic reality.

“The Gallery is an innovation that furthers Rolls-Royce’s unparalleled Bespoke capabilities. Patrons are now invited to commission artworks for their own personal Gallery within Phantom, in essence, bringing art, within art.”

3. Spirit of Ecstasy

The iconic symbol of luxury and elegance – Spirit of Ecstasy. This enigmatic mascot of Rolls-Royce Motor cars is the symbol of dream – energy, grace and beauty. In 1909, Eleanor Thornton’s presence was crystallised in the form of an ornamental figurine, by the artist Charles Sykes. The statuette woman leans forward with her arms outstretched behind and above her, billowing cloth running from her arms to her back, resembling wings.

Fun Fact 5: Originally silver-plated, the mascot was changed to nickel or chrome alloy after 1914, to prevent theft. Today your Spirit of Ecstasy can be stainless steel, 24-carat gold, illuminated frosted crystal, or even matte black and studded with diamonds!!

Luxury

1. Leather Upholstery

When it comes to luxury and comfort in a car, nothing beats the leather upholstery. Being the most luxurious car brand, Rolls-Royce takes it a step forward. The leather used in every Rolls-Royce ever comes from the Scandinavian bulls. However, Rolls-Royce never uses cowhide because female cattle are prone to getting stretch marks during pregnancy.

Fun Fact 8: The leather used in the car upholstery always comes from the bulls slaughtered for meat.

Fun Fact 9: Rolls-Royce doesn’t have any pre-defined base price as the price depends on the level of luxurious customisation.

However, Rolls-Royce car Ghost price starts at Rs 6 Crore and the Rolls-Royce Phantom starts at Rs 9.50 Crore in India.

If you have money, Rolls-Royce will set your imagination rolling. To summarise, the Rolls-Royce is the definition of Perfection, Precision, Craftsmanship and Luxury.
